What Our 101-Point Website Audit Actually Checks

By Michael Huth, Chief Product Officer at Marketing51

A typical free website audit checks whether your title tag exists and if your site is mobile-friendly. Congratulations — you passed a test designed in 2015.

The web in 2026 is harder. AI search, voice assistants, schema requirements, accessibility law, and Core Web Vitals have created a 16-category gauntlet that most business websites fail at least 30% of. Our audit runs all 101 checks in under 10 seconds.

The Three Pillars

We organize the 101 checks into three scoring groups:

  • SEO:The technical foundation — mobile, speed, meta, security, content structure, schema, social, analytics, accessibility, performance. Most sites score 70–85% here. The gaps are almost always schema, accessibility, and performance tech.
  • AEO (Answer Engine Optimization):Lead capture, trust signals, conversion optimization, content freshness. Measures whether your site converts the visitors it gets. Most sites score 50–65% here. The gap is usually freshness — no blog, outdated content.
  • GEO (Generative Engine Optimization):AI search readiness and local visibility. The newest category and the one with the biggest gap. Average site scores 40–60%. Missing: FAQPage schema, llms.txt, speakable markup, answer-first content.

The Checks Most Sites Fail

After running thousands of audits, the most commonly failed checks are:

  1. AI search readiness — No llms.txt, no speakable schema, no dateModified in structured data
  2. Content freshness — No blog or news section, no recent content signals
  3. Analytics — No tracking installed, making ROI measurement impossible
  4. Lead capture depth — Contact form exists, but no scheduling tool, no chat, no click-to-call
  5. Trust signals — No testimonials on the homepage, no trust badges, no verified credentials

Why 101?

Not because 100 felt incomplete. Because every check we include represents a real signal that search engines, AI models, or users use to evaluate your business. We don't include checks for their own sake — we include them because failing them costs you traffic, leads, or credibility.

The audit is free. The insights are the product. Run it, read the breakdown, and you'll have a prioritized fix list — ordered by maximum impact — that most agencies would charge $500 to produce.
